“‘Diamonds’ is my most complex of the works for the many facets of these gems. A round cut diamond has 58 facets - 33 on the crown and 25 on the pavilion, not to mention those of the girdle between crown and pavilion. Since diamonds are cut to enhance luster, brilliance and fire, the angles of facets ensure light passing in through the crown are reflected at least two times internally between pavilion facets back through the crown, that challenge the artist to represent the myriad reflections and refractions. This work features the sharp focus and fierce brilliance of gems in my favorite style of hyperrealism to capture the effects of light through these many faceted crystals.”
